The Trusted Traveler Program was implemented at Arnold Air Force Base on June 1 to assist personnel bringing visitors onto the installation.

Rick Trull, chief of Arnold AFB Security Forces, explained that the Trusted Traveler Program is a procedure adopted by many military installations that allows for uniformed service members and spouses, Department of Defense employees and retired uniformed service members and spouses to vouch for occupants in their immediate vehicle and escort them into the Mission Area without having to go through the Visitor’s Center or be issued a badge.

“The Trusted Traveler Program sponsors must possess a valid base entry credential, Common Access Cards or military associated ID cards only, no Defense Biometrics Identification System (DBIDS) or temporary access credentials,” he said. “The sponsor must realize they are entirely responsible for the actions of all occupants in their vehicle, must remain with their visitors the entire time they are in the mission area and must meet all local security requirements.”

Trull noted that it isn’t only an option for DOD and military, but contract employees are also able to take part in the Trusted Traveler Program.
“Locally, the commander has authorized members of our contract mission partners, who have government issued CAC cards, to participate in the Trusted Traveler Program as well under those rules that apply to CAC holder sponsors,” he said.

Escorted visitors are still subject to controlled or restricted area limitations, as appropriate. No one is authorized to escort or vouch for foreign nationals onto an installation.

The Trusted Traveler program is suspended if force protection conditions reach Charlie or higher or as determined by security forces.
There is a complete training package on the Trusted Traveler Program, which can be accessed through the “Security Now!” button, found on the Team AEDC SharePoint site. Part of this training is a “How It Works!” section describing the requirements for bringing visitors on base.

Because of the stipulations, all Arnold AFB personnel must first review the training before attempting to sponsor someone under the Trusted Traveler Program. Anyone with questions about the program are asked to call 454-3424.
