Office of the Judge Advocate

The Office of the Staff Judge Advocate at Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC), Arnold Air Force Base, Tennessee, provides the full range of legal services and advice in support of AEDC operations. Our practice areas include the following: acquisitions, ethics, labor and employment, environmental, real property, military justice and adverse actions, and general advice on installation civil law matters.

Legal assistance services are available to active duty members, dependents of active duty members, and retirees. Others, including some members of the reserve components and their dependents, some DoD civilian employees, and some contractors are also eligible for legal assistance. Individuals in these groups should inquire about eligibility by calling 931-454-7814. A copy of relevant orders, a copy of the contract, or other relevant documents may be required to assist in eligibility determination.

Legal assistance services include advice on personal civil matters and drafting of wills, powers of attorney, and advanced health care directives. Legal assistance services do not include representation in court or other forums, drafting court or transactional documents, advising on matters adverse to the Air Force or DoD, or advising on matters regarding which individuals have already retained an attorney (unless that attorney authorizes in writing). Additionally, please note that we are prohibited from advising individuals on criminal matters. However, victims of crimes are authorized to receive legal assistance from our office. Those who have made a restricted report regarding a sexual assault should consult with his or her Victim Advocate for the proper process for seeking legal assistance from our office.
