The Arnold Air Force Base Medical Aid Station is teaming up with the American Red Cross for a blood drive that will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Aug. 22 in Room 125 of Building 100.

Just in time for the kickoff of college football, the American Red Cross is inviting donors to take part in some friendly competition while giving blood.

Those planning to attend are encouraged to wear their favorite college football team colors. By supporting their favorite team through their attire, donors will provide their respective team with a “vote” or a “touchdown” with their blood donation.

Those who attend but are unable to donate due to a medical reason can contribute a “field goal” to their team. The team with the most votes or points will be able to claim bragging rights.

All blood types are needed with all base personnel invited to attend. Contractor employees are invited to participate in accordance with company policy and supervisor approval.

To be eligible to donate, you must weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. The process usually takes about 30 minutes and donors are asked to drink plenty of fluids, avoiding caffeine, and eat a meal that is rich in iron prior to donating. Bring identification in the form of a donor card or driver's license.
