A team of Arnold Engineering Development Complex engineers is heading up this effort, and the goal of the HTCI Project, nicknamed “Project Phoenix,” is to transform the J-5 facility to support future hypersonic weapon acquisition and research and development programs. The pit will house the heaters that allow the facility to test at hypersonic conditions. (U.S. Air Force photo by Bradley Hicks)
