After months of preparation, the Arnold Air Force Base Ground Vehicle Fueling Facility is accepting customers who are fueling government vehicles with regular unleaded gasoline or diesel fuel, also known as GUR or DS2.

“The new facility is located on 4th Street and will operate in the same manner as the old facility,” wrote Gary Chain, Fuels Terminal manager, in an announcement to the workforce. “If your vehicle is authorized to receive GUR or DS2 at the old facility you will be authorized to use the new facility.”

The $3.4 million effort was a military construction project funded by the Defense Logistics Agency with the U.S. Corps of Engineers serving as the design and construction agent. CAPE Environmental Management, Inc. was the design/build contractor.

The old fueling facility was constructed in 1953 and was functioning at less than 50 percent. Whereas the fuel tanks were located underground with the previous facility, the new facility has above-ground tanks that are easily accessible for monitoring and inspecting.
