Military urges service members to avoid eating poppy seeds

The Department of Defense is asking service members to avoid the consumption of poppy seed products as this could result in a codeine positive urinalysis result. Recent data suggests that certain poppy seed varieties may have higher codeine contamination than previously believed. Seeds may be contaminated with morphine and codeine from the latex of the opium poppy, which produces poppy seeds, during the harvesting process. (U.S. Air Force graphic by Brooke Brumley)
