The varieties of homemade chili recently prepared and sold by personnel in the Power Control Building not only served to warm up many across Arnold Air Force Base on a crisp autumn day, the vittles will also help make Christmas a little brighter for a number of children in the area.

The chili was sold as part of the “International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Kids for Christmas” fundraiser. The sale, which took place on Nov. 2 at Power Control, was coordinated by members of the Arnold Engineering Development Complex local union of the IBEW.

Power Control electricians, engineers and admins made the beef, turkey and deer chili for the fundraiser. Patrons were able to choose their preferred level of spiciness and toppings, including cheese, sour cream and Fritos.

Money raised during the sale will be used to purchase Christmas presents for foster children residing in the counties surrounding Arnold AFB. If any money is remaining after this, that funding will be used to buy gifts for needy students in local schools.

In early December, members of the IBEW at Arnold will accompany the foster children as they pick out their gifts.

The IBEW Kids for Christmas event has been going on at Arnold for more than 30 years. Last year, around 80 local children received gifts as a result of the effort.
