TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- The Vanwey Dining Facility reopened its doors after a 14-month long renovation process to upgrade the 50-year-old building on April 5.
In addition to revealing structural renovations and new equipment, the grand opening of the DFAC also revealed precautions being taken to keep Airmen healthy.
Due to COVID-19 concerns, the DFAC will have temporary limitations of carry-out services only and will not currently serve civilian or retired personnel. Other extra precautions are also being taken to ensure the health and safety of Airmen.
John Noble, chief of the Sustainment Services Flight, 72nd Force Support Squadron, said that all food and beverage will be on a carry-out only basis from single entry and exit doors. Customers will also be required to fill out a health screening questionnaire and will be checked for fever upon entering the facility.
Safe distance markers and signs have been placed throughout the facility to ensure proper social distancing and customer flow. Management has also installed additional sneeze guards and members are instructed to hold their ID card to scan for meals.
DFAC employees are also ensured continuously cleaning and sanitizing high-touch areas, such as drink machines and countertops.
The DFAC will still maintain its normal operation hours of Monday through Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. for breakfast, lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and dinner from 4:30-6:30 p.m. The facility will also be open Saturdays and Sundays for brunch from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. and for dinner from 4-6 p.m. Flight menus are still offered 24/7.
