Arnold Air Force Base, Tenn. -- The Arnold Air Force Base Medical Aid Station is once again teaming up with the American Red Cross for a blood drive that will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 17 in Room 125 of Building 100.
According to the American Red Cross, the organization is experiencing an emergency blood shortage after its national blood inventory plummeted more than 25% in July. The organization stated that this summer’s record setting heat was a significant contributor to the recent blood collection challenges that impacted more than 100 blood drives over the last two months.
All blood types are needed with all base personnel invited to attend. Contractor employees are invited to participate in accordance with company policy and supervisor approval.
To be eligible to donate, you must weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. The process usually takes about 30 minutes, and donors are asked to drink plenty of fluids, avoid caffeine, and eat a meal that is rich in iron prior to donating. Bring identification in the form of a donor card or driver's license.
