Arnold Air Force Base employees took to the court at Tullahoma High School, Tullahoma, Tenn. to participate in the Air Force Northeast Regional volleyball tournament, Jan. 18 and 19, 2025.  Arnold was among nine teams from Air Force bases across the country that made the trek to the Volunteer State for a weekend of camaraderie and physical fitness.

Participating Air Force bases included Dover AFB in Delaware, Scott AFB in Illinois, Langley AFB in Virginia, Whiteman AFB in Missouri, McGuire AFB in New Jersey, Seymour Johnson AFB in North Carolina, and Arnold AFB in Tennessee. The aforementioned bases are a part of the Air Force Varsity Volleyball League (AFVVL) Northeast Region.

Comprised of civilians, active-duty and dependents, the tournament was the inaugural event for the Arnold AFB team that has come together over the last few months to promote physical fitness and team spirit.

“The team has been together for a couple of months now,” stated team member and tournament organizer Scott Glennon. “We regularly practice at the Fitness Center on Tuesday afternoons, which is open to anyone on base that would like to participate. There is a Teams chat where this is coordinated and if anyone would like to be added, they can reach out to any of the varsity team members or anyone that is currently in the chat group.”

Results of the tournament included first place going to Langley AFB, Scott AFB taking second and Whiteman AFB claiming third in the men’s division.

In the women’s division, first place went to Scott AFB, Dover AFB received second and third place went to Seymour Johnson AFB.

Scott AFB took first place in the co-ed division, with Dover AFB and Langley AFB claiming second and third.

Glennon added that the tournament was enjoyed by all, and they plan on participating in future events such as these.

“We all had an excellent time and enjoyed fellowship with our fellow airmen from other bases participating in the tournament,” Glennon stated. “The intent is to continue building the varsity program here at Arnold, so yes, we are looking to continue playing in the upcoming 2025-26 season, which will start back up later this year.

“Currently the league is only open to active-duty military, DoD civilians, and dependents 18 and over. I am working with the AFVVL to explore the possibility of allowing Arnold a waiver that would allow CAC holding contractors to participate in the future.”
