ATA offers personnel an opportunity to support Hurricane Sandy Relief Published Nov. 16, 2012 By Raquel March AEDC/PA ARNOLD AIR FORCE BASE, Tenn. -- Aerospace Testing Alliance (ATA) is offering its employees an opportunity to convert accrued vacation into a cash donation to the local chapter of the American Red Cross. Through this program, employees may donate accrued vacation in increments of one, four or eight hours. The vacation hours will be converted to a cash value based on the individual employee's hourly rate of pay. At the end of November, an ATA employee group will present a single contribution to the local chapter of the Red Cross on behalf of our employees. The chapter will allocate these resources to the areas of greatest need. The IRS has recently issued a notice that employee donations in exchange for vacation will not be treated as taxable income to the employee. As such, employees are not allowed to claim the donation as a charitable contribution deduction for tax purposes. The leave donation is limited to accrued vacation only and does not include accrued sick leave, comp time or other forms of leave.
