The Morris Ferry Dock boat ramp on Woods Reservoir will be closed temporarily from Aug. 3 - 13 due to maintenance work to clear trees and brush.

In February 2009, Morris Ferry Dock officially re-opened after the U.S. Air Force, Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency (TWRA) and Franklin County officials signed a memorandum of understanding to solidify the agreement between the three parties to maintain the Morris Ferry Dock area for recreational purposes.

"We are removing some trees that cause safety concerns and that have caused upheaval of the access road," explained Lt. Col. Saroya Follender, the 704th Civil Engineer Squadron commander. "This is part of our effort to restore the area for day-use picnicking and boat access to Woods Reservoir. The area improvements are a joint project between TWRA, Franklin County, and Arnold to allow the community to use this recreational area."

Rick McWhite, Arnold Engineering Development Center's (AEDC) natural resource manager, said there are other boat ramps the public will be able to use during the dock's closure.

"Those folks wanting to have access to Woods Reservoir for fishing and boating can use the facilities at the Franklin County Beach (Camp Arrowhead area) and the area behind the Gossick Leadership Center," he said. "Also, the old Coffee County launching ramp on the north side of the base off of Old Brick Church Road is another option."
