Bill Wendle, Arnold Engineering Development Center (AEDC) operations flight chief and emergency management program manager for the 704th Civil Engineer Squadron, has won the Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC) Air Force Civilian Emergency Manager of the Year award.
Wendle was recognized for driving significant improvements to AEDC's emergency management program overseeing more than 166 personnel on six teams. He aggressively implemented the first AFMC Emergency Operations Center (EOC) at Arnold for contingencies. He assured critical Emergency Response Operations training for more than 450 with 100 percent complete prior to AFMC suspense.
According to his nominator, 704th Civil Engineer Squadron Commander Lt. Col. Saroya Follender, Wendle has complete dedication to duty and has a meticulous instinct to get things done right the first time. He has built capabilities of a large base with the resources of a small program with a punch. "I'm very proud of Bill and the team that he represents," Colonel Follender said. "Everyone has put forth a lot of thoughtful effort to bring the Emergency Management program from the concept to where it is today. Their success is demonstrated by their recent 'best yet' from headquarters AFMC Emergency Management staff assistance visit to this formal recognition of Mr. Wendle himself."
He has also developed relationships enhancing emergency management capabilities from the National Guard to local emergency management services. Arnold joined more than 20 local teams at the first ever county-sponsored Emergency Preparedness Day
