Comm Squad wins AFMC award, will now compete at Air Force level Published March 5, 2009 By Janaé Daniels AEDC/PA Arnold Air Force Base, Tenn. -- Arnold Engineering Development Center's 704th Communications Squadron has won the Lt. Gen. Harold W. Grant Air Force Communications and Information Annual Team Award for 2008. This is an Air Force Materiel Command level award. The squadron will now compete for an Air Force level award. General Grant was the director of Air Force Telecommunications from 1958-1961 and was the first commander of the Air Force Communications Service. This award recognizes large and small communications and information groups and squadrons for sustained superior performance and professional excellence while managing core communications and information functions and for contributions that most improved communications and information support to Air Force and (or) Department Of Defense operations and missions. "This shows that we are an outstanding Communication Squadron in AFMC," Michael Glennon, director of the 704th Communications Squadron said. "We are doing the right things, and have come a long way. We are truly living up to our patch 'Second to None.'" Among numerous accomplishments in 2008, the 11-person unit was recognized for earning an overall "outstanding" rating during the 2008 Unit Compliance Inspection; managing the development and implementation of a separate network for test operations; initiating the deployment of the Air Force SharePoint data access and storage system; managing the upgrade of the base radio system and providing expert guidance and management for all communications and information technology efforts for day-to-day operations and test specific support operations.
