Main Gate to close for several months Published May 1, 2008 By Janaé Daniels AEDC/PA ARNOLD AIR FORCE BASE, Tenn. -- Beginning May 9, the Arnold Engineering Development Center's Main Gate will close for several months for roadwork and facility replacement. During this time, Gate 1 by the fitness center off Wattendorf Highway will be operational 24 hours a day. Gate 1 is a two-lane road and traffic congestion is expected. It is recommended that AEDC personnel allow a little extra time or flex schedules to avoid peak hours. Gate 2 will maintain normal hours from 5:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. The Pass & Registration building just outside the Main Gate will remain open throughout the construction. Center visitors (other than authorized Base Exchange commissary patrons or VA clinic patients or retired military personnel accessing the base medical clinic) will need to process through Pass & Registration then enter through Gate 1. Personnel authorized to shop at the Base Exchange, commissary, dispensary and the A&E building will be allowed to enter Gate 1 and proceed down Schriever Avenue to von Kàrmàn Drive. Patience is appreciated during the construction period. There will be continuous monitoring of traffic flow and every attempt will be made to maintain courteous and professional service as drivers enter and exit the installation.
