Whoop, there it is!
This ‘juvenile’ whooping crane along with four siblings found themselves roosting for a few days at Arnold’s airfield. These endangered cranes are a part of a reintroducing initiative to save the species since there are less than 500 left in the world. Usually
the cranes depart in winter from the Necedah National Wildlife Refuge in Wisconsin and make a 1, 218-mile trek to Florida. It was on their way back to the refuge that they decided to stop, mainly due to cloudy weather conditions. This particular crane was hatched May 22, 2007, at the Calgary Zoo. (Photo by Richie Wyckoff)
