The U.S. Air Force has prepared a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) that evaluates the potential environmental consequences associated with establishing the Common Battlefield Airmen Training (CBAT) program at either Arnold Air Force Base (AFB), Tenn.; Barksdale AFB, La.; or Moody AFB, Ga.

The Air Force proposes to establish the CBAT program to further expand Airmen ground training in combat small arms firing, basics of land navigation, small unit tactics, and combative skills. Full implementation of this program would require and support a daily total of approximately 2,600 personnel (instructors, base support, and students). This would result in the training of approximately 14,000 Airmen annually at the selected base.

A public hearing near each of the three bases is scheduled to provide the public information about this Draft EIS and ensure the public has a fair and equal opportunity to consider and comment on the document and the proposal. An Air Force presentation will occur at 6:30 p.m., 30 minutes after the start of each hearing, with an opportunity for formal public comment to follow. All interested individuals and organizations are encouraged to attend.

Public Hearing for Arnold Air Force Base - When and Where: July 10, 2007, 6 to 8 p.m. at the Coffee County Administrative Plaza Community Room, 1329 MacArthur Street, Manchester, Tennessee.
