Master Sgt. Harold Jones, Arnold Engineering Development Center's (AEDC) Command Post performance evaluation chief, has won the Air Force Materiel Command Unit Level, Command Post Senior Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year award.

Sergeant Jones was recognized for his work in AEDC's Operations Center.

"Master Sgt. Jones is a consummate professional who leaves no stone unturned to improve our processes and ensure mission accomplishment in support of the warfighter," AEDC Commander Col. Art Huber said. "Considering we have only one military person in our otherwise contractor-run command post function here, we are most fortunate it is Master Sgt. Jones with his ability to adapt to non-standard circumstances and his talent for building and leading a team of individuals from mixed employment backgrounds."

During 2008, Sergeant Jones accomplished many AEDC mission and personal goals:

- He led the first Air Force contractor-operated Command Post by providing the Air Force with crucial knowledge of converting Command Control operations. This resulted in an Air Force benchmark.

- He created innovative Command Post operations control and tactical control alignment under AEDC's 704th Maintenance Group. This resolved major Unit Compliance Inspection findings.

- He strengthened his leadership skills by graduating from the Senior Non-Commissioned Officer academy course 12, earning six hours toward a Bachelor of Arts in Operations Management degree.

- Responded to 81 alarms as a volunteer firefighter for Mulvane, Kan., and Manchester fire departments. He rescued eight lives and extinguished approximately 15 fires.

He will now go on to compete at the Air Force level against all major command level winners.
