Schleider receives Boy Scouts of America Long Rifle Award

Michael Schleider, AEDC director of Engineering and Technical Management and Elk River District Boy Scouts District Advancement Chairman, recently received the Boy Scouts of America Middle Tennessee Council Long Rifle Award. He received this District Award of Merit at the Elk River District Adult Volunteer Recognition and 2013 Eagle Scout Banquet. The Long Rifle Award honors local unit and district-level scouters as selected by the local district committees and is presented for noteworthy service of exceptional character. The award, worn around Schleider’s neck, is a miniature long rifle pendant fashioned after the long rifle that was used by Tennessee pioneers and is suspended from a green ribbon. Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC) leadership honored annual award winners at the Complex’s recent Annual Awards Banquet. Retired U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. ATA thanks employees for their hard work

Aerospace Testing Alliance (ATA) recently held a special barbecue luncheon for employees at the Chem/Met Lab to express appreciation for a couple of major efforts. The Chemicals Lab successfully received recertification by the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) and the Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) lab’s X-ray support of a recent solid rocket motor. ATA Director Lynn Moran, Deputy Director Debbie Bayer and Branch Manager Walt Bishop say they organized the luncheon to recognize the Chem Lab employees for their continued excellence of work. AIHA certification is difficult to obtain and establishes high standards of performance for laboratories; it promotes the production of quality data for use in evaluating exposures that impact public health, the environment and public resources. AEDC personnel give to the Angel Tree Drive

Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC) personnel demonstrated their generosity by giving to the Angel Tree Drive this month which provides gifts for needy families in Bedford, Coffee, Giles, Hickman, Lawrence, Lewis, Lincoln, Marshall, Maury, Moore, Perry and Wayne counties. ATA Blood Drive Donor School Drawing winner announced

John England (center), ATA Lead Boilermaker, and Leslie Myers (right), a Comprehensive Occupational Resources (CORE) registered nurse (RN) for ATA, present a check to Sarah Lemons (left) of The Enrichment Fellowship Cooperative of Tullahoma. England was one of 85 AEDC employees who volunteered to donate blood during the November blood drive. To help promote the blood drive, names of ATA personnel who signed up to donate blood were submitted for a random drawing for a $500 school donation in the person’s name to the school of their choice. England’s name was drawn and he requested the donation be made to the cooperative. Blood Assurance also awarded Wal-Mart gift cards to four ATA donors, not pictured. Confined space rescue training instrumental to AEDC

AEDC Fire Fighters Brandon Gunn (left) and Anthony Jimcoily (right) and AEDC Pipefitter John Knox, who works in confined spaces, recently completed a mandatory confined space rescue training exercise utilizing the proper equipment and procedures. Gunn’s and Jimcoily’s assignment was to retrieve the worker at the end of the pipe and transport him to safety. Confined space rescue training is an annual mandatory training which involves the AEDC Fire Department, AEDC Safety, Health and Environmental Branch and ATA Mission Support.
