Three new laser camera systems have been installed at AEDC’s Hypervelocity Ballistics Range G. The new systems capture digital images of projectiles traveling at high speeds. A laser mounted at the top of the system illuminates the tank while a camera on the bottom captures the image. The new cameras replace film systems that were decades old. (Photo provided)

AEDC extends beyond Tennessee: Tunnel 9 and NFAC

A photo taken in 1989 shows one of Tunnel 9’s two test legs that were designed and built to accommodate the multiple testing capabilities available at the facility. Each leg contains a test cell which is 5 feet in diameter and more than 12 feet in length. These test cells can accommodate full-scale reentry bodies, full-scale endo-interceptor, and large-scale aerospace vehicles and hypersonic inlet models. (File Photo)

AEDC running track officially open

The new running track at Arnold Engineering Development Center’s (AEDC) Administration and Engineering Building is now open for runners after a ribbon cutting May 25. The six-lane, 400-meter track has a rubberized surface and will be used to support current Air Force fitness initiatives and to encourage the health and well-being of the AEDC work force. Work began in August 2010 and was funded by dollars specifically earmarked for Department of Defense Fitness Operations and Maintenance Projects.
