Passing the flag
Col. James Jolliffe, commander of the 704th Test Group at Arnold Engineering Development Center, Arnold Air Force Base, Tenn., passes the flag of the 716th Test Squadron to Lt. Col. Vanessa L. Bond during a change of command ceremony here April 18, 2008. The ceremony took place between the 16-foot transonic and 16-foot supersonic wind tunnels. Lt. David Cancel is also pictured. As commander of the 716th, Colonel Bond, who took command from Col. William Hack, will direct sophisticated flight simulation testing for air and space systems in subsonic to hypersonic flight envelopes. In her previous assignment, Colonel Bond served as student leader for more than 30 officers and civilians in her class at the Air Force Institute of Technology at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, where she worked on her doctorate degree. There she studied aeroelasticity and multi-disciplinary optimization. Her research included conducting subsonic wind tunnel testing at the Portuguese Air Force Academy and static nonlinear response testing at the University of Manchester, UK. As a graduate of the USAF Test Pilot School in Class 98A, Colonel Bond served as a flight test engineer on multiple weapon systems including the F-15E, C-130E/H/H2/P and C-5. Most recently, Colonel Bond served as an assistant airector of Operations for the 411th Flight Test Squadron during the developmental flight test program for the F-22 Raptor.
