The Hands-On Science Center runs the Air Force Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics program on behalf of Arnold Air Force Base. The grant money allows the HOSC to fund events such as S.T.E.M. camps, glider academy, FIRST® teams and many more S.T.E.M. related events and education.

The existing J-5 Large Rocket Motor Test Facility at Arnold Air Force Base is undergoing removal of antiquated components in preparation for facility renovations. Above is an example of the overset meshing that can be generated with Pointwise. Overset meshing is used when multiple meshes are needed to better capture complex shapes like those of modern aircraft and test facilities at AEDC.
This dragonfly image is an example of a computational mesh generated with Pointwise software, used by AEDC engineer to perform computational fluid dynamics, or CFD, for a wide variety of flight conditions and physical environments.
In the diagram, the first image is of a rotor fan surface geometry that was the result of the laser scan. The second image shows computational fluid dynamics (CFD) mesh that was generated from the surface and then used to produce the CFD results. The third image shows a portion of the CFD flowfield and the pressure of the air as it goes through the fan. (Image Provided)
