NASA CEV/launch abort system tested at AEDC

Randy Plattenburg, an Aerospace Testing Alliance test engineer, inspects the Orion crew module and launch abort system model during a configuration change between aerodynamic effects test runs on the model in 16-foot transonic wind tunnel. The tests included runs/entries of the model components together, separately and incremental changes in separation distance and angles between the components. The test team built up to the various separation distances between the two major components, with the closer distances being the more important because of the likelihood of contact between them.
