Painting a piece of history
AEDC team members Jamie Elam, left, and Jonathan Finn, apply a fresh coat of paint Aug. 9 to a TF-30 engine on display in front of the Engine Test Facility at Arnold Air Force Base. The engine, tested in the ETF in the 1960s, was the first afterburner turbofan engine. The F-111 Aardvark, a multipurpose tactical fighter bomber retired from U.S. service in 1996, was powered by two TF-30 engines, and could fly at supersonic speeds.
