Woods Reservoir completed 70 years ago this month

Crews drill rock on the north side of the Elk River Dam core trench in February 1951 during construction of the dam. Construction of the Elk River Dam, built to create Woods Reservoir, was completed 70 years ago this month. Since that time, Woods Reservoir has supplied cooling water to the test facilities at Arnold Air Force Base, Tennessee. Arnold AFB is the headquarters of the Arnold Engineering Development Complex.
