AEDC Fellow Richard Austin’s contributions to the complex remembered

Richard Austin, left, then-deputy director of Propulsion Test at Arnold Engineering Development Center, later known as Arnold Engineering Development Complex, is among AEDC personnel who gathered to examine data collected on Space Shuttle Challenger at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., in the early 1980s. AEDC was instrumental in identifying the source of hydrogen leaking from within the Challenger’s main motors. Also pictured are Alex Domal, center, then-acting chief of the AEDC Rocket Division of the Directorate of Propulsion Test, and Vince Zaccardi, research engineer with AEDC’s then-aeropropulsion test contractor.
