F-105 Thunderchief display at Arnold AFB honors Bond

Lt. Gen. Robert Bond, center, visits with fellow attendees of the Arnold Engineering Development Center 1984 Dining-Out held at the Officers’ Open Mess at Arnold Air Force Base, Tenn. Bond, then vice commander of Air Force Systems Command, was a frequent visitor to Arnold. The static F-105 Thunderchief on display outside the Main Gate at Arnold AFB is dedicated to Bond, who was killed on April 26, 1984, when the aircraft he was piloting crashed at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada.
