AEDC Acoustic Imager places Top 3 in AFMC Spark Tank
Wayne Horton, condition-based maintenance ultrasound lead at Arnold Air Force Base, Tenn., headquarters of Arnold Engineering Development Complex, shows the Acoustic Imager that was awarded AEDC Spark Tank funding earlier this year. The acoustic imager is used to identify leaks in compressed air, gas and vacuum systems. It can also reveal the locations of electrical partial discharge which, if left unaddressed, could result in system failure and power loss and could pose a safety hazard. Horton served as principal investigator on the project. The Acoustic Imager project was recently selected as a semifinalist in the Air Force Materiel Command Spark Tank Integrated Capabilities challenge. (U.S. Air Force photo by Bradley Hicks)
