An engineer is dwarfed by a Mars Lander parachute tested at the National Full-Scale Aerodynamics Complex at Moffett Field, California, in 2007. The parachute, measuring more than 65 feet in length, opening to a diameter of nearly 55 feet and designed to survive loads in excess of 80,000 pounds, was the largest disk-gap-band parachute ever built.
