Eye in the sky: Arnold AFB begins facility inspection using remotely piloted aircraft

Those who coordinated and observed the March 5, 2025, demonstration of a Small Unmanned Aircraft System, also known as an sUAS or a “drone,” gather for a photo at Arnold Air Force Base, Tenn. Pictured from left are Robert Hastings, Arnold Engineering Development Complex Commander Col. Grant Mizell, Matt Holder, Dan Henley, James Mansfield, Don Brandt, Donna Spry, Pearson Brock and Mike Glennon. AEDC is headquartered at Arnold AFB. The sUAS will soon be used at Arnold to perform asset health assessments. The device is equipped with both digital and infrared imaging capabilities and will be flown around installation buildings, plant facilities and associated equipment to ensure there are no compromises to such assets and to assess the structural integrity of facilities.
