AEDC at 75: Schriever champions Air Force research and development

Gen. Bernard Schriever, commander of the Air Force Systems Command, second from left, speaks with other attendees of a 1963 dinner at Arnold Engineering Development Center during which the planned University of Tennessee Space Institute was discussed. Known as the “Father of Air Force space and missiles,” Schriever led the nation’s Intercontinental Ballistic Missile program. Schriever was a regular visitor to Arnold Engineering Development Center during its early years and relied on AEDC for aerodynamic and rocket propulsion data.
