A Pratt & Whitney F135 engine, slated to be the powerplant for the Joint Strike Fighter, undergoes altitude testing in Arnold Engineering Development Center’s J-2 test cell. The J-2 cell has the capability to simulate altitudes to 80,000 feet and speeds to Mach 3. AEDC is conducting a multi-year test program in several test facilities for variants of the F135 engine worth approximately $200 million.
