HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- Arnold Engineering Development Leadership didn’t have to search far to find the next commander of the 746th Test Squadron.
Lt. Col. Neil Grigsby assumed leadership of the squadron during a June 10 Change of Command ceremony at Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico.
As 746 TS commander, Grigsby will oversee developmental testing of U.S. air, land, sea and space guidance and navigation technologies.
Prior to this assignment, Grigsby served as the director of operations at the National Radar Cross Section Test Facility which, like the 746 TS, is part of the 704th Test Group of AEDC.
Grigsby entered the Air Force in May 2011 through the U.S. Air Force Academy where he earned a Bachelor of Science in aeronautical engineering. He also completed Squadron Officer School at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, in 2016. In 2018, he graduated from U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School at Edwards Air Force Base, California, where he received a Master of Science in flight test engineering. Grigsby also received a Master of International Public Policy through the Johns Hopkins University and Schriever Space Scholars Program in 2025.
Grigsby’s first assignment was rocket sled design engineer for the 846th Test Squadron at Holloman, AFB. The 846 TS is also a unit of 704 TG. Among other assignments, Grigsby has served as a project officer, flight commander and chief engineer. His test and program management responsibilities over prior assignments have ranged from envelope expansion flight test to electronic warfare.
His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Aerial Achievement Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Air and Space Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, and the Air and Space Achievement Medal.
Grigsby was promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel in March 2026.
