    AEDC Aeropropulsion team takes the lead on AFWERX Rapid Test Technique Development effort

    The Arnold Engineering Development Complex Aeropropulsion Combined Test Force team at Arnold Air Force Base has become involved with AFWERX to explore ways to reduce the time required to prepare to test new U.S. Air Force turbine engines. AFWERX is an Air Force initiative started in 2017 to foster a culture of innovation within the service.

    Safety measures added along Wattendorf Memorial Highway

    In an effort to improve safety for motorists traveling on Wattendorf Memorial Highway, guardrails are being installed in the vicinity of steep shoulders and bridges.The initial project involves 12 sites where guardrails are to be installed from the intersection with Interstate 24 to Arnold Air Force Base Gate No. 2.     NFAC tests solutions to poor pilot visibility in inclement weather

    The team at Arnold Engineering Development Complex’s National Full-Scale Aerodynamics Complex, or NFAC, recently added rain simulation to the organization’s portfolio of capabilities.The F-16 System Program Office has been trying to address an issue with rain pooling on the canopy of the aircraft and reducing pilot visibility. DAF Officers began patrolling Arnold in late August. The SUV driven by Blasingame was recently acquired for the new force, and another SUV is also on order. Motorists traveling Arnold AFB roadways should be mindful that the DAF officers can issue citations for moving violations. Motorists who are cited for moving violations on Arnold AFB property are assessed points. Points are entered into the Air Force Justice Information System and assessed against their on-base driving record. Accumulation of 12 points in 12 months or 18 points in 24 months normally results in loss of driving privileges for up to a year.
