ATA Boilermaker Ray Powers welds from a stainless steel spool in the Model Shop on a project for one of AEDC’s test facilities. The boilermakers fabricate, install and maintain large sections of metal ducting, the components making up wind tunnels, pressure vessels, seals, coolers, storage tanks, heat exchangers, boilers, test cells, diffusers, venturis, bell mouths and nozzles. AEDC's Master Sergeant Ryan Miller is true to his beliefs

Master Sgt. Ryan Miller, AEDC’s munitions accountable systems officer, conducts an inventory on base munitions stored in a blast resistant, reinforced area on the base. The munitions at Arnold are for base defense and a number of research, development and testing projects. Sergeant Miller and his five-member team are responsible for the safe procurement, transportation, storage, use and dispensing of a broad array of hazardous materials on base. These include aviation fuel, heavy and light oils, explosives and munitions, and ozone depleting substances. During his off duty time, Sergeant Miller has started his own ministry with the aim of helping others help themselves. One effort he has spearheaded involves helping adults pursue a General Equivalency Diploma and higher education. (Photo by Rick Goodfriend)

AEDC junior officers observe flight-line operations first-hand

The stinger bee logo on the tail of the 180th Fighter Wing’s aircraft is representative of their nickname as the “Stingers.” The Block 42 F-16 is powered by the F100-PW-229, which has been tested extensively at AEDC. Coincidentally, the most recent F100-PW -229 testing was accomplished in AEDC’s Sea Level 3 test stand as part of the engine’s Service Life Extension Program, extending the 229 life by almost 50 percent.
