By 1956 Phil Tarver was joined by R. Pierson Smith and Charlie Powell who helped him with photographing the important events and people associated with the frenetic pace of flight simulation testing at AEDC. The team captured newsworthy and often iconic images on film, both photographic stills and movies. (AEDC historical photo)

A new experience for a new senator

Almost 40 years later

Dale Bradley, an engineer in the 718th Test Squadron, is turning over his 39 years of AEDC knowledge to young engineers when he retires Jan. 3. Bradley has been at AEDC since 1975 and has become the jack of all trades when it comes to analysis and evaluation. Balls of fire

Arnold Engineering Development Center Firefighter and Crew Chief Charlie Armstrong examines a ceramic ball, one of thousands from a catalytic butane burner that was used to provide heat for conditioned air in the Aeropropulsion Testing Unit, a blow-down ground testing facility on base. An explosion at the facility propelled the white-hot ceramic spheres into the nearby woods, catching the trees on fire. This was another accident that Armstrong and his colleagues responded to, putting the fire out and mitigating the damage to an expensive facility. (Photo by David Housch)
